The Standard have covered Fare Free London’s meeting with the Greater London Assembly (GLA) in an article published online yesterday.

The article states that ‘Free public transport for every Londoner has been suggested by community activists as a way “to open up the city”,’ and quotes campaigners saying ‘We’re not asking for utopia, we’re asking for a new funding model.’

It mentions the many supporting groups of Fare Free London, including that we have ‘attracted support by several unions, including the RMT’s London Transport Regional Council.’ It also highlights Fare Free London’s survey, open to all respondents and aimed at low-income Londoners, inviting information about experiences of paying for public transport in London. It is open until the summer and we welcome all responses.

With regard to how to pay for free public transport for all in London, Fare Free London ‘believes it could be done by levying higher taxes on the “fossil fuel industry” and other big business, and re-allocating existing budgets.’
