The Socialist Health Association London states that:

“The Socialist Health Association London recognizes that clean air quality is vital for health. Londoners suffer with poor air quality, particularly in poorer boroughs such as Newham and the east end in general.

Decreasing private car use is important to decrease emissions. Increasing availability and range of public transport will take cars off the road and increase opportunities to develop infrastructure for active travel – walking, cycling, for buggies and wheelchairs.

Introducing free public transport can potentially help to decrease car use rapidly, and this policy has already been implemented successfully in many cities around the world. Money saved by not keeping on with ever more road building and repairs can be used to create safer cities for active travel.”
