We gave a presentation at the webinar launch of Fare Free Yorkshire.

The meeting was well attended, and included interesting talks by Matthew Toppham, coordinator of the Better Busses campaign,  Sandra Wyman from Leeds DPAC (Disabled People Against the Cuts) and Mel Mullings member of London RMT.

It’s really exciting to see the campaign for free fares spreading to other parts of the country, which will strengthen the campagin everywhere, although as one participant discussed public transport outside of the major cities is very poor, and needs to be improved, an issue as important as making it free to use. The experiences of Brazil in both of these is that the more cities that offer free fares the more cities that then join the movement, and the more people who use transport, because it’s affordable, the more improvements are seen in services.
